FAQ for breeders

Tipaw is a platform designed to assist you in finding the right pet from responsible breeders. Firstly, we enlighten prospective adopters on the significance of selecting a suitable dog by offering articles, breed description cards, and an orientation questionnaire. Secondly, to enhance transparency and promote optimal breeding practices, while also preventing deceitful acts, Tipaw gathers passionate and responsible breeders and shelters. Every breeder enlisted on Tipaw commits to our ethical charter. Tipaw further offers solutions to assist pet owners throughout their pet's life journey. Moreover, Tipaw (Belgium) includes a section listing numerous professionals in the animal sector who advocate for animal welfare. We optimize these professionals' visibility and simplify their appointment-making process, enabling pet owners to promptly schedule online appointments. In conclusion, everyone registered on Tipaw has a "My Tipaw" personal area, which consolidates information about their pets, digital passports, and a log of appointments with professionals.

Tipaw was established in 2017 based on the following observations: 1. Pet shops & puppy mills: Nowadays, many puppies are sourced from puppy mills and pet shops, flooding the market with ads and overshadowing responsible breeders. 2. Impulsive purchases: Often stemming from excessive advertising and a lack of awareness and guidance in the decision-making process of the future owner. 3. Animal abandonment: Every year, a distressing number of dogs are abandoned due to impulsive and inappropriate purchases, overwhelming shelters that are in dire need of sustainable solutions. Following these findings, Tipaw's solution is: 1. Promoting responsible breeders: All member breeders adhere to an ethical charter, and all users of our platform have the opportunity to review these breeders. 2. Raising public awareness: Our objective is to guide potential owners in choosing a breed that fits them. We provide online questionnaires and experts to deter impulsive buying. 3. Advocating for shelters: We collaborate with shelters to assist abandoned dogs in finding a new home. By amplifying their visibility, we hope to facilitate their efforts in swiftly locating suitable homes for every dog.

Tipaw's mission is to improve animal welfare by developing digital solutions. It revolves around two main axes:
  1. Improve the daily life of animals
    1. Raise awareness among the population by facilitating access to information
    2. Encourage the adoption of a pet from structures that care about animal welfare

Tipaw is the reference site for connecting future adopters with responsible breeders. Above all, Tipaw will provide you with immense visibility among informed and aware future adopters thanks to our high-quality tools and content. After your 100% free registration, you will have a personal space "My Tipaw" for the complete management of your breeding. This space consists of various sections: your litters, applications for your litters, your waiting list, your families, and your messages. All of this will allow you to better organize your breeding and focus on what matters most: your dogs and their new family. Since promoting responsible breeding is our number 1 priority, our platform is entirely free (registration and use) for you breeders! You will also save time in your selection of ideal adopters, thanks to our application system where adopters have to answer a series of questions in advance. Thanks to this, we assure you that adopters who start procedures with you have genuinely thought about adopting a dog and are ready to welcome it into their family.

Registration and use of the Tipaw platform are entirely free for breeders.

Yes. Whether you have only one litter in your lifetime or several, Tipaw helps you find the best adopters for your puppies. Additionally, we support you in obtaining all the information you need to follow responsible breeding practices.

We individually verify all breeder registrations to ensure they adhere to our ethical charter. The verification process consists of several steps:
  1. Visit Tipaw and complete your registration as a breeder: register
  2. Fill out the form and answer questions about your dogs (health, education, selection, pedigree, tests, activities, etc.) and your breeding. Remember to fill in all the mandatory fields (red asterisks).
  3. Validate the fields "I commit to respecting Tipaw's ethical charter" and "I have read and accepted the general terms of use", at the bottom of the page.
  4. Our expert team checks if your profile meets our ethical charter.
  5. Within 48 working hours, your profile will be approved or rejected. An email will be sent to you in either case.
  6. Finally, you will receive a confirmation once your profile is validated on our platform.
  7. Remember to check your spam, our emails sometimes sneak in there.

We follow the laws in force in each country regarding the HK approval number (Belgium) or SIRET (France). For Belgium, anyone living in Wallonia wishing to sell their puppies must have an approval number. More information about this is available here. In Flanders and Brussels, the approval number is mandatory for all breeders with more than 2 litters per year. The application for approval must be made to either the Dienst Dierenwelzijn or Bruxelles Environnement. In France, every professional breeder must at least provide a SIRET number which clearly states the activity of dog/cat breeding or "other animals". Only exceptional breeders (breeders not offering more than one litter per year of puppies registered in the LOF) can register without SIRET (but with FCI affix and LOF litter number).

Breeding with pedigree (e.g. LOF (France), LOSH (Belgium) or NHSB (Netherlands)) is not mandatory to register on the platform. A puppy raised in a loving family environment with good veterinary follow-up can be in excellent health, even if it doesn't have a document certifying its lineage. However, Tipaw always recommends performing at least certain genetic tests depending on the breed raised. Once logged into your breeder account, discounts are available in the Tipaw benefits for conducting genetic tests at reduced costs.

Tipaw does not require that the dogs listed on the platform be tested for genetic defects related to their breed, but strongly recommends it. In this sense, discounts are available in the Tipaw breeder's personal space to carry out genetic tests at reduced costs.

As a responsible breeder, you can place advertisements on Tipaw for free. After your registration, you will receive an email confirming the approval or rejection of your profile. If approved, you can add current and future advertisements by clicking on "add a litter" in the top right corner. Make sure to fill in the mandatory fields (red asterisk) and add at least one main photo and a photo of the mother and father. Your litter announcement will be reviewed within 48 working hours, and if everything is in order, it will be publicly displayed on Tipaw.

The prices of the puppies are always set by the breeders, according to their own criteria (pedigree, genetic tests, competitions, coat color, etc.). Tipaw does not make any decisions regarding the prices and potential deposits of the puppies.

By joining Tipaw, you contribute as a breeder to recognizing responsible breeding and strengthen your quality image. Moreover, it allows you to distinguish yourself as a breeder from (illegal) classified ad sites and other search results tarnished by scams, ads from intensive breeders, and pet shops. In addition, Tipaw allows you to easily access the contact details of your candidates at any time: no need to worry about losing a phone number or an email.

Once connected to your breeder space (connect here), whether you have put a litter online or not, you will find all the applications that have been sent to you in your My Applications section. From there, you will be able to see the details of the applications and contact the adopting candidate directly (either via internal messaging or by phone, for instance, to schedule a visit). If the contact results in an adoption, you can select the “Add to my adopters” button to accept an adopter.

Yes, the choice of future adopters is entirely up to you. Tipaw facilitates your connection with aware adopters genuinely wanting to find their future companion, but makes no decisions regarding adoptions.

Yes, this choice is entirely yours and there is no need to justify it to Tipaw.

In your personal area "My Tipaw", you will find your waiting list and your new applications. All you need to do is follow up on the applications of adopters who meet your selection criteria.

Anyone interested in adopting a puppy from your breeding can apply. They will then answer a series of questions about their lifestyle. We have set up the application system to help you easily and quickly determine if the lifestyle of the prospective adopters matches the needs of the breed of your puppies. The adoptant is asked to share the following information with the breeder:
  • Desired breed (if multiple breeds within your breeding)
  • Are there other animals present at the adoptant's home, and if so, what type of animals
  • Type of dwelling (house or apartment with or without a garden)
  • Level of experience with dogs
  • Number of hours the dogs will potentially be left alone
  • Household composition (single, with partner, children, teenagers, etc.)
  • Potential gender preference for the animal
  • Mobile phone number
  • Additional questions or comments from the adoptant
Once the application is submitted, you have the opportunity to review its content and to contact the adopter directly to discuss further and potentially arrange a visit. You also have the option to decline the contact request if you do not have a litter available or planned or if you feel that the applicant does not meet your adoption criteria.

No. Your personal space "Mon Tipaw" is a private area. You are the only one with access.

When an application is sent, both the adopter and the breeder have access to each other's full contact details and can communicate through internal messaging, by email, or by phone.

You can archive your litter by clicking on your ad (see link below), then on "Archive": ads

Our support team is always available for any questions or problems you may encounter. Do not hesitate to contact us through the contact form or send us an email at info@tipaw.com. As much as possible, and taking into account working days, we aim to respond as quickly as possible, within 48 working hours.

In order to ensure follow-up and support throughout the process of putting your litters up for sale, to continue the manual verification of breeders present on Tipaw, and to offer you an efficient and evolving tool, Tipaw charges a service fee from adopters. Once an application is sent, the concerned adopter will be automatically invited to confirm their interest and seriousness by paying Tipaw's service fees. They can then obtain your contact information and directly contact you by exchanging through internal messaging or by phone and organizing visits. Tipaw's service fees are used to:
  • Testify to the seriousness and interest of future adopters
  • Ensure follow-up and support throughout the adoption process
  • Verify the ads, litters, and breeders present on Tipaw
  • Continue our fight against puppy mills and puppy abuse
  • Continue to raise awareness among the public about responsible purchasing
In addition, it is important to know that:
  • The service fees are not requested from the adopter if they withdraw their application before sending it to you.
  • The service fees do not in any case represent a deposit.

Firstly, we wish to involve all stakeholders concerned about the cause we defend: animal welfare. Secondly, we aim to provide a simple solution for pet owners looking for a professional near them. On Tipaw, it is easy to find a vet, groomer, or trainer close by and book an appointment immediately.
